The Safari experience in the South East Lowveld of Zimbabwe is exceptional, characterised by its wild, remote and authentic African wilderness. Key safari destinations include Gonarezhou National Park, Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve and the Save Valley Conservancy.

Each area is special and unique for its own reasons: Gonarezhou is famous for its dramatic red sandstone cliffs, Malilangwe is an exclusive private reserve with luxury lodges and Save Valley Conservancy straddles an area of very diverse bushscape and is made up of a range of properties, each offering different accommodation and safari opportunities.

Wildlife: All the areas are focused on wildlife conservation and visitors can expect to see a variety of mammal species including the Big 5 and rare species such as the African Wild Dog. Birdlife is exceptionally abundant with between 400 and 500 species being recorded in the area.

Activities: Popular activities include game drives and guided bush walks, fishing, photographic hides and cultural visits.

Unique features: The region offers exclusivity, dramatic landscapes, unrivalled baobab trees and strong conservation efforts. It is a less crowded and off-the-beaten-path safari destination. The South East Lowveld is a fantastic choice for adventurous traveler seeking a pristine and immersive safari experience.

Accommodation options: There are a variety of accommodation options ranging from high end luxury set ups with chefs and three course meals to campsites offering cooking over an open fire, and a few options in between.

Best time to visit: May to October is the cooler, dry season and is best for game viewing. November to March is the warm, wet season and is a great time for birdwatching and observing the smaller more cryptic species such as bats and insects. It is a fascinating time of year to visit for those wanting to understand the greater ecology of the area.
